It’s mid-August, signaling the end of summer. Schools are starting back soon if they haven’t already. The busyness that often defines the rest of the calendar year – the next cycle of crisp, crackling fall activities, holiday season soirées, New Year’s and all the resolutions that come with it, and the buzzing re-emergence of spring – is upon us.
There’s just something about summer that allows us to grant ourselves permission to let go, have fun, and enjoy everything to the finest and fullest degree. We experience a release from obligation and expectation. More than any other time of year, it is synonymous with leisure and luxury – having the freedom to go, see and do what you please, when you please.
For those of you who may be lamenting the close of the summer season, transferring your life from the summer house to the townhouse or traveling back from time abroad, take pause. Your summer doesn’t have to end here. You can extend your stay among the several hot hotel openings happening within the coming weeks.
We begin with this week’s opening of the highly anticipated Park Hyatt New York – Midtown Manhattan’s newest luxury hotel, (main image) located on West 57th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. The perks of this hotel include exclusive cultural experiences in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art and Carnegie Hall among others, an exclusively blended line of bath amenities by Le Labo Frangrances, signature treatments for rejuvenation and wellness at Spa Nalai, and more.
If a South American getaway is what you seek, Tierra Chiloé becomes Chile’s third all-inclusive adventure destination. Owned by Tierra hotels, known for its award-winning luxury resorts, Chiloé will be open seasonally from September through May for guests to enjoy the top-tier accommodations of this sustainable, geometric-designed luxury eco-hotel. Its interiors will be outfitted with hand-made textiles and woodcarvings, and the food served will feature local ingredients and draw on the region’s traditional dishes. Among the different excursions guests can experience is a sail on the hotel’s tailor-made, locally made vessel. Also in September, the resort city of Punta del Este, Uruguay will welcome guests arriving at The Grand Hotel, situated with privilege on the gorgeous Brava Beach. This luxury hotel features stunning ocean views, Roman baths, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, and an intimate movie theater among its offerings.
At the end of the month (September 28, 2014), the much-anticipated Shangri-La’s Sanya Resort & Spa will open on the southernmost tip of Hainan Island. It is the first luxury resort hotel in an area of Mainland China known as “Oriental Hawaii,” occupying 45 acres of pristine white-sand beaches and commanding mountain views. A fusion of indigenous and elegant style, and high standards of hospitality, will define the atmosphere of this resort, which includes 340 spacious guestrooms and eight private villas. Amenities include rainforest showers, six live theater kitchens for multi-cultural dining, full spa, and outdoor adventure zone. Another arrival in China is the ultra-luxury hotel Rosewood Beijing, which will open in mid-October 2014. Offering its guests an impeccable array of services – including hand-picked and curated Beijing experiences, sophisticated and interactive dining and entertainment on-site, the most outdoor landscaped space of any of Beijing’s luxury hotels, and some of the largest guestrooms the capital city has to offer – this hotel is sure to deliver on its tagline of “An exquisite expression of luxury.”
